about

The first song we created is the first song on the CD. Completing it was actually a fairly big deal for us, as up to that point we'd never really written anything other than acoustic ballads.

It was during the chorus while Julie sang '50 years tearing down walls, now we build them up again. Strange instead of hammer and stars, old scars opening.' that we looked at each other and thought for the first time 'this could work.'

lyrics

I’m dreamin’ – in brown and blue
I looked out – found something new
They say – gotta follow through
But I never had that point of view, that point of view
The Race runs through

I’m drownin’ – in black and white
Some say – it’s wrong or right
I never, never followed through
And I’m not afraid of the view, of the view, of the view
The Race runs through
The Race runs through
The Race runs through
The Race . . .

Fifty years tearing down walls
Now they build them up again
Strange instead of hammer and stars
Old scars opening
The Race runs through

Back to back and side to side
Now they dig the great divide
Over under in to you
Now I don’t know what to do
Pain and fear and hate and grief
Now it stands in stark relief
What would they have us do?

The Race runs through
The Race runs through
The Race runs through
The Race . . .

Fifty years tearing down walls
Now they build them up again
Strange instead of hammer and stars
Old scars opening

Fifty years tearing down walls
Now they build them up again
Strange instead of hammer and stars
Old scars opening, they’re opening
The Race runs through
Runs through
Runs through
Runs through
